6 Cool Facts About Breastfeeding
1st – 7th of August 2017 marks the 25th Breastfeeding Week – A week dedicated to help “protect, promote and support breastfeeding by anyone, anywhere at anytime”. There are plenty of fun facts and myths about breastfeeding out there which we thought we would share with you in this post.
Fact 1: Breast size has nothing to do with milk production
Larger breast size may mean there is a larger amount of fatty tissues. The glandural (milk producing) tissue is what matters.
Fact 2: Children who are breastfed have a lower rate of certain illnesses as they grow up
Some of these certain illnesses may include asthma, diabetes and childhood obesity.
Fact 3: Breastfeeding saves a family approximately 2-4 thousand dollars annually
It’s amazing how much formula milk costs. Breastfeeding is essentially free so this may save you approximately $2-4 thousand a year compared to if you buy formula milk instead.
Fact 4: Breastfeeding can help mothers return to their pre-baby weight
Producing milk is hard work. The process burns approximately 1000 calories a day!
Fact 5: Breastfeeding exposes your baby to many different tastes
Whatever mum eats will transfer on to the flavour of her breastmilk.
Fact 6: Breastmilk heals
You know those 101 uses for coconut oil, etc? Well, apparently breastmilk is also one of those all-healing substsasnces. A cool tip: rub some breastmilk on to sore nipples and they will heal quickly!
